The Nigerian Civil War, also known as the Biafran War or the Nigeria-Biafra War, was a war fought to counter the secession of the Republic of Biafra from Nigeria. Biafra, which declared its independence on May 30, 1967, was in the then Eastern Region of Nigeria with the Igbo people forming the majority. Well, the war lasted for 30 months, from July 6, 1967, to January 15, 1970, with millions of casualties on both sides. The war did not happen overnight but certain events led to it.
