The Rivers State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has instructed the Rivers State House of Assembly to initiate impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara with immediate effect.

Tony Okocha, the chairman of the Rivers APC caretaker committee, issued the directive on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

Okocha alleged that the Governor had failed to honor the terms of the peace agreement brokered by President Bola Tinubu to resolve the ongoing political crisis in the state, which has pitted the Governor against his predecessor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

During a meeting with a delegation of political and traditional leaders from Bayelsa State at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Monday, Fubara stated that he accepted Tinubu’s peace accord to allow the lawmakers a reprieve.

However, he clarified that the peace deal with Wike was political and could lead to the derecognition of his loyalists as lawmakers.
