The Kano State Commissioner for Women, Children and the Disable, Aisha Saji has intervened in the case of two underage siblings who were allegedly abused sexually by their father’s friend to ensure justice for the victims.

A statement by the Ministry’s Director of Public Enlightenment, Aishatu Haruna, a copy of which was made available to LEADERSHIP on Wednesday, stated that the Commissioner took interest in the case shortly after it was publicised in a local radio programme, ‘Yanchi da Rayuwa’.

The Commissioner immediately directed two directors and an experienced staff in the ministry to make possible contact with the victims and give her feedback.

According to the statement, on meeting one of the victims and his mother in her office, the Commissioner was shocked by the level of damage done to the eight-year-old boy who went through corrective stitches on his badly teared anus.

Moved by plight for the victims, Saji promised to follow up the case to a conclusive end and made instant efforts to secure a government legal luminary that will see the victims through legal victory.

She also offered to settle the debt accrued from months of treatment of the victims who are yet to fully recover from the physical anal injuries, and further support the family with gifts of clothes, money, a bag of rice and corn.

Speaking earlier, the mother of the victims said she was informed of the incident by her ex-husband who withdrew the case and persuaded her to let go of the matter, but she decided to reopen the case with the police and drag it to court after the alleged culprit was released on bail despite the proof of evidence from doctor that examined her children.

She further noted that during one of the medical visit, a doctor flushed out accumulated worms in their anus and stitched one of them of the tears he sustained while the other victim passes out faeces uncontrollably.

The mother however said, though the case has been before a court of law, she is yet to appear before the Judge.

In their separate remarks, the victims aged eight and ten said they were sexually abused by the suspect who often threatened to harm them if they tell anyone about the abuse.

They however revealed that despite the threat, they had reported the matter to their father who asked them to keep quiet and warned them to keep it a secret.
