The President General of Eziowelle Improvement Union Hon Barr Titus Akpudo has been accused of illegal occupation of the community mandate as PG, in utter disregard for the 1992 EIU constitution.

This development was made known in a Press Release signed by the branch Chairmen and Secretaries of EIU Abuja branch, EIU Lagos branch, and EIU Onitsha branch, in view of clearly informing the general public and relevant stakeholders of the situation on ground.

Eziowelle Improvement Union (EIU) Nigeria General Assembly in line with the 1999 EIU constitution as clearly stated in Article XVI sections (C) and (D) that mandates three branches Chairmen and Secretaries to take over the administration of the union in the event of failure or neglect to conduct general elections as at when due, has resolved to take up the responsibility and address the anomaly.

This resolution according to the press release issued by the branch chairmen on Tuesday 7th May, 2024,, became necessary following the vehement refusal and unwillingness of Barr Akpudo, whose second tenure as President General of Eziowelle Town Union elapsed on the 30th of June, 2021, to relinquish power and pave way for the election of a new leadership for the Town Union.

The branch chairmen lamented the PG’s failure to comply with the provisions of the EIU constitution, upon which he was elected as president general, contending that infringement of the law had taken place with the connivance of officials who acted without the consent of the branch chairmen and the general assembly of EIU.

The press release further revealed that Titus Akpudo had served the EIU in two capacities for twelve years. One as the Vice President General for six years, and another term of six years as President General which officially elapsed on the 30th of June, 2021. The statement also revealed that Barr Akpudo contested and won as President of Anambra State Association of Town Unions, while he was serving as the PG of Eziowelle Town Union.

To this end, the branch chairmen and secretaries of EIU Nigeria, namely; Mr Ezenwa Azie and Barr Ekene Arubulueze for Abuja. Mr Anthony Oragui and Comrade Chukwubuike Okafor for Lagos, Mr Chimezie Chukwuka and Mr Chukwudi Okeke for Onitsha wish to inform the general public that the administration of Eziowelle Improvement Union (EIU) has been taken over by the General Assembly, to enable them convene an emergency meeting aimed at chatting a new course for the community.

The aforementioned branch chairmen consequently raised resolutions that will henceforth guide the interim administration of the EIU as follows:

  1. That the Administrative Secretary Eziowelle Improvement Union (EIU) Nigeria, Mr Francis C. Mbakwe can no longer write or sign letters or issue directives in the name of EIU Nigeria without written instructions of the General Assembly.
  2. That Mr Francis C. Mbakwe should as a matter of the urgency of now, withdraw any notice for elections issued earlier by him because he cannot derive power from a vacuum.
  3. That Owelle Eziowelle, HRH Igwe Michael Ugorji Okonkwo – Etusi should respect the terms and content of the letter of recognition dated 16th August, 2018 with reference no ODG/GHA/CM/262/T/77 and copied HRH by the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters. His continued recognition of Barr Titus Akpudo as President General Eziowelle Improvement Union (EIU) Nigeria is in clear breach of the directives of the government of Anambra State.
  4. That Abuja, Lagos and Onitsha branches that account for the greatest majority of members of Eziowelle Improvement Union EIU Nigeria does not recognize any other constitution except the 1992 constitution.
  5. That there was no general meeting held on the 19th of December, 2020 to adopt a new constitution.
  6. That 19th December, 2020 was the season of global knockdown orchestrated by the COVID-19 pandemic and those claiming that a general meeting took place to adopt a new constitution are liars and arch enemies of Eziowelle.
  7. That the General Assembly in strict compliance with Article XVI section (C) of the 1992 constitution will set up an electoral committee that will conduct elections into the vacant EIU Nigeria positions.
  8. That other branches should join the train towards the restoration of the glory of Eziowelle.
  9. That the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs is hereby invited to toe the path of honour by cooperating with the General Assembly to return Eziowelle back to civilization in the interest of the greatest majority who voted for Professor Chukwuma Soludo in the last governorship election.

Meanwhile, several calls put across to get the consent of the embattled Barr Titus Akpudo failed, as he did not pick any of the calls.
