Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was visibly frustrated after his team’s poor showing against Crystal Palace on Monday, where they suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat. He singled out five players in particular for their subpar performance.

United, aiming to secure a spot in European competitions, were left disappointed at Selhurst Park. The game started to unravel for them early on when a defensive blunder in the 12th minute led to Crystal Palace’s opening goal.

Michael Olise capitalized on the mistake, weaving his way past Christian Eriksen and easily slipping through Casemiro’s weak tackle before beating goalkeeper Andre Onana.

In his post-match comments, Ten Hag was blunt in his criticism, pointing out that these five players failed to execute the defensive plan and didn’t adjust to the flow of the game.

“The throw-in where you concede the first goal, that shouldn’t happen and that is as a team because we don’t follow their rules. We don’t adapt to the different situations to organise, to keep control in those situations. Five players over the ball and they have a throw-in, it is not possible,” Ten Hag said told Sky Sports.

“There are five players there and that is a goal that shouldn’t happen because we really give clear instructions of how we should defend this. They didn’t bring it on the pitch and we got hammered “
