According to reports, Chelsea are ‘closing in on’ the signing of Jules Kounde from Sevilla as they are ‘ready to pay’ £59m for him this summer.

Kounde has been consistently linked with a move to the Premier League over the past year.

The centre-back has shone for Sevilla, playing 132 times since the start of the 2019/20 campaign.

Chelsea are in need of some new defenders this summer. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen are set to join Real Madrid and FC Barcelona on free transfers.

Andreas Korssund (The Sun) is reporting via Twitter that Chelsea are now ‘closing in on’ Kounde.

It is said that ‘personal terms have been agreed’ and the player is ‘waiting for Chelsea’.

The two clubs will ‘conclude talks’ once Todd Boehly’s takeover of the Blues is finalised. The report adds that Chelsea are ‘ready to pay the required fee’ for Kounde. This is understood to be £59m.

Elsewhere, Chelsea-linked Declan Rice is reportedly set to stay at West Ham for one more season.

With West Ham unable to secure Champions League qualification following their defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt, the Englishman had been expected to seek a move away from the club, with Chelsea and United both ready to pounce.

West Ham boss David Moyes has insisted that Rice is ‘not for sale’, attaching a £150m price tag to the young midfielder, but there was always a feeling that if Rice had his heart set on an exit, then a deal could be made possible.

Rice, though, is now ready to commit himself to the club for at least another season, according to the Mirror. That much was evident in his interview after West Ham’s semi-final defeat, when he vowed to “go again” next season.

“We’ve proved that we can play in big European games and our fans and our stadium have shown we can handle those big European nights, and that’s what we want more of,” he said.

“I’m proud of the lads because we’re not the biggest of squads, so to go week in, week out again and again and again, training and playing Thursdays and Sundays, away from home and away from families has been tough, but in the end we’ve had a great year and we’re ready to go again.”
