Billionaire media mogul Oprah Winfrey has quietly sold her waterfront estate in the U.S.’s Pacific Northwest for $14 million in a deal that was recorded Tuesday.

The sale of the contemporary cabin on Washington’s remote and rural Orcas Island—part of the San Juan Islands—was conducted off market, according to Jen Cameron, vice president of Coldwell Banker Bain’s global luxury division, who represented the buyer in the deal.

“There was a rumor that the property might be for sale or the seller might consider selling it,” Ms. Cameron said. “And so, with the interested party, we approached the representative to see if that was true—and that’s pretty much how it went.”

Because of the hush-hush nature of the deal, information about the property is not widely available. However when Ms. Winfrey acquired the home, Mansion Global reported that the 40-acre getaway was equipped with a slew of luxury amenities, including a wet bar, a wine cellar, a decorative wood-fired pizza oven and heated floors.

“It’s an extraordinary, almost magical piece of property,” Ms. Cameron said.

“There’s many islands in the Pacific Northwest, and amongst all the islands there’ll be certain pieces of property that can just be spectacular. But this property has always been extraordinary,” she said.“When you step on this property you instantly feel a sigh, a magical feeling of restoration.”

Ms. Winfrey, 67, has owned the home since 2018 when she bought it for roughly $8.3 million, using an entity linked to her network, records show. She bought the property as a passive investment, Mansion Global reported at the time.

“Oprah got a really great deal [in 2018], we were still recovering from the market crash,” Ms. Cameron said. Across the islands of the Pacific Northwest, “people were so timid and cautious about any sort of purchase.”

But buyers today are looking for homes just like this one by the dozen, and as such, they’re trading at much higher prices, according to Ms. Cameron. “She’s making some really smart moves.”

The buyer of the home is listed in property records as Lophodytes LLC, and Ms. Cameron declined to comment on their identity.

A representative for Ms. Winfrey didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Puget Sound Business Journal first reported the sale.
